 MOVE AMERICA

BEYOND OIL

July 1, 2010

7-8:30pm

Join us as we host this documentary courtesy of The Sierra Club.

Top kill, booms, cement caps -- it's been difficult to follow all of the details of the oil disaster in the Gulf Coast.

The stories that have been hardest to track though are those of people whose lives have been devastated due to BP's negligence.

That's why the Sierra Club is working with Brave New Foundation on a Beyond Oil mini-documentary that profiles people impacted in the Gulf and gives a first hand account of the disaster.

At our house party we'll watch the short documentary, talk about how we can help the Gulf Coast and then write letters to President Obama urging him to develop a plan to move our nation beyond oil.

We all feel frustrated and angry by the pace of BP's response, the way they've conducted themselves and about how little we can actually do to help make the situation better.

"Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream" Symposium

For more info about "The Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream" symposium, click here.

Through dynamic group interactions, leading edge information, and inspiring multimedia, participants of this half-day event are inspired to reconnect with their deep concern for our world, and are empowered to make a difference.

Designed with the collaboration of some of the finest scientific, indigenous and activist minds in the world, the Symposium explores the current state of our planet from a new perspective, and connects
participants with a powerful global movement to reclaim our future.

It is an exploration of four questions:

  • Where Are We? – an examination of the state of environmental, social and personal well-being
    • How did We Get Here? – tracing the root causes that lead to our current imbalance
    • What’s Possible for the Future? – discovering new ways of relating with each other, with the Earth and looking at the emerging Movement for change
    • Where Do We Go from Here? – considering the stand we want to be in the world and our personal and collective impact
If you are ready to be disturbed, inspired and moved to action, and to be introduced to a thriving community of committed cohorts, then join us in exploring the most critical concerns of our times, and discover new opportunities to make a real difference in accelerating the emergence of an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling, and socially just human presence on this planet!
Please arrive early so we may begin at 1pm.  There will be time afterwards to meet with all participants and set a plan of action in place with your community.  Beverages & snacks provided.  Suggested donation: $10.   Seating is limited.

Introduction to Permaculture Workshop held March 20, 2010
Join Bob Burns and Isabel Crabtree, founders of Central Georgia Permaculture Institute and GeorgiaPermaculture.com.  Bob and Isabel are regionally noted Permaculture Designers, teachers and homesteaders.  We will cover how to "Think like a Permaculturist" - the basic ideas of Permaculture, including principles, ethics, designing landscapes, water catchment and concepts such as Food Forests, Home Ecosystems, and much more.  After lunch we will do a "walk-about" with plant guru Bob Burns, and then will work on an "Herb Spiral" which exemplifies Permaculture Principles at work.
